Baptism
Go, therefore, make disciples of all the nations; baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to observe all the commands I gave you. And know that I am with you always; yes, to the end of time.
[Matthew 28:19-20]

Helping families to prepare for their child’s baptism is much more than preparing them for a one-day event. Rather it is an opportunity to welcome them into the parish family and into the heart of the Church. It is also an opportunity for the parish to help parents recognise the primary role they have in the formation of their child and to support them in passing the faith onto their children. With this in mind, we have reviewed how parents can arrange to have their child baptised in St John’s.
We ask that you make initial contact with us either by telephoning the Parish Office or by emailing Catherine Largey, the parish pastoral assistant. We will invite you to come to a welcome meeting where we will explain our preparation programme.
A date for your child’s Baptism will only be agreed once you have attended a Welcome meeting. We look forward to welcoming families as they take up the invitation to Come grow with us.
If you do not live within our Parish (you can check our Parish boundaries here Parish Boundaries it may still be possible to have your child baptised here in St John’s if this is the church you attend regularly. In the first instance however, we ask that you make contact with your home parish and request a signed consent form for our records. This is normal procedure for all parishes.
